How to Prepare for Campus Interview: Expert Tips

In today’s competitive and cut throat world it is imperative to crack an interview opportunity when it presents itself. For a single vacancy there are hundreds of applicants who appear for that single post. Following are some guidelines which one should be mindful of while preparing for campus interview:

  • Do your homework well:  Make sure you do complete research on the company that is coming for hiring on the campus. Learn what products the company offers, the financial status of the company, the mission and vision statement, the name of the CEO and the Senior Leadership team.  Also if possible do your research on the interviewer.
  • Resume: Your resume should be concise & professional. It should catch the eye of the interviewer & impress him to know more about you. A good resume is the entry ticket for a campus interview.
  • Practice & Rehearse: Usually the first step in any campus interview is Group Discussion. Since the topics in Group Discussions are extempore it is very essential to start by speaking on various topics in front of a mirror so that you are well prepared before the Group Discussions. By rehearsing again and again you will gain confidence and this will enable you to perform well in the GD visa via competition. Also it is essential to cover all the current affair topics before GD.
  • Body Language: It is critical to display positive body language in campus interview. Always maintain eye contact with the interviewer while speaking as this conveys confidence. A firm handshake by the interviewee displays positive body language and makes a positive impression on the interviewer. While meeting the interviewer for the first time smile as it creates a good impression. It is of utmost importance that one should be dressed formally while going for a campus interview. During a campus interview one should not appear nervous. Do not clench or unclench your hands or slouch on the chair as it displays negative body language.
  • Communication:  Most of the companies look for candidates who are effective communicators when they go to a campus for hiring personnel.  So while giving an interview the interviewee should come across as interested & committed to the company. It is essential to put forward your thoughts to the interviewer in a professional and articulate manner as this conveys a message that you are a good communicator. If at any time during the interview a candidate does not know the answer to a question then he should be honest and admit that he is unable to answer the question which will display honesty and integrity. Companies value honesty, integrity & stability in a candidate so one should try to display the same in an interview.
